10 Essential Tips to a Stress-free Wedding

Our top 10 tips to staying cool calm and collected on your Big Day:

1 – Book as many vendors as you can in advance

The key to a fairytale wedding is great execution. Even with all the time in the world set aside for planning, you’ll always wish you had more time when the big day is nearing. By finalizing things such as venue, catering, photography and entertainment months in advance, all you will have to focus on is enjoying your special day.

2 – Let Someone Else Worry About it

Save time and energy by choosing a venue that provides all necessities for the event. Considering a venue that provides all the essentials like tables, chairs, sound systems, catering and wait staff. This will be a massive time saver in the long run. Many venues offer full service packages, and there are also external companies that offer all of the same one-stop-shopping for the necessary services that can be brought to the chosen location.

3 – Keep Things Organized

If a wedding planner is not in the budget, consider a “Day-of Planner”. Day-of Planner is exactly what it sounds like – a professional event coordinator who is hired for one day functions. Day-of Planners are a great alternative and will make sure the event goes off without a hitch at a fraction of the cost. If neither of these options are possible, consider asking a highly organized, detail-oriented friend or family member if they would fill in the role. As it is a position of extensive work and responsibility, it would be appropriate to consider their role as wedding or day-of planner as their wedding gift to you.

4 – Hire the Right Vendors

Online reviews can be incredibly helpful when choosing vendors, but cannot always be relied on when every bride has unique and individual tastes that may not be the same as yours. Trusting intuition is key: if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Although finances may be tight, you can’t put a price on peace of mind. A “good deal” isn’t so good at all if you’re not 100% happy with the product, regardless of how much you might save. This is often the case for bridal gowns “custom made” online, as true fittings and alterations can only be done in person, and often result in unsatisfied customers.

This can all be rectified by one key piece of advice: TRY BEFORE YOU BUY. Whether its a dress or a flavour of cake icing, online reviews can never beat trying the real thing yourself. Many companies will be more than happy to send samples for your review, so you can make sure every detail is personalized to your satisfaction.

5 – Stay Organized

Create a schedule for how the day will unfold step-by-step, hour-by-hour. Make sure that all your bridesmaids have a copy and know exactly what’s expected of them. Keeping everyone in the loop will ensure a smooth, stress-free day. That being said, always anticipate a little hiccup here and there, and if you’re feeling overwhelmed, lean on your bridesmaids to keep you calm and rectify whatever situation may have arisen. It’s impossible to always stay on schedule; just relax, do what you can, and accept what you can’t.

6 – Get Your Beauty Rest

Let’s face it – planning a wedding can be overwhelming. The importance of managing stress cannot be emphasized enough. All those restless nights worrying about last minute details will only leave you even more exhausted and overwhelmed—try and unwind with a yoga routine or a run before bed. Not only is exercise always healthy for body and mind, it will help you relax and get a good night’s sleep. Feeling refreshed on the big day will make all the difference! Try a yoga session to help you relax before bedtime, (Here’s) one we recommend.

7 – Capture the Moment

Come up with a list of photos ahead of time that you would like your photographer to capture. Websites like Pinterest and other wedding sites are a great place to start. This will help the photographer get the moments you want most without unnecessary hassle on the big day.

And one more thing – in this day and age when every guest at your wedding will no doubt have their smartphones out, decide in advance if guests are allowed to take photos, or decide on a “no photo” policy during the ceremony and/or reception. The photographer is hired to take the best photos possible, and having guests take photos can be unnecessary and distracting. Alternatively, you are alright with guests taking their own snapshots, create a hashtag for your special day so everyone can get in on the fun (and so you can find the photos later).

8 – Don’t Stress Over the Weather

There are many aspects of a wedding day that are within your control. Unfortunately, mother nature is not one of them. Inclement weather, like life itself, is uncontrollable and not worth getting worked up over. Doesn’t it make sense to reserve our energies for things we can actually fix? That being said, it’s always good to have a few back-up ideas for playful pictures you can capture in the rain or snow; always look for opportunities to develop a negative into a positive.

9 – Don’t Over Do It

Good Vibes Only

Good Vibes Only

It can be tempting to have a few drinks to calm your nerves or down a pot of coffee to get the engines running. While this might seem like a good idea, the last thing you want is to compromise your special day by accidentally being overstimulated or intoxicated. Opt for a calming decaf tea blend instead. And DON’T FORGET TO EAT. Hunger can sneak up on you before you know it, especially when you’re in the midst of last-minute running around. Eat breakfast first thing on your wedding day, and keep a healthy energy bar on hand (like Luna or Cliff) or some snackable veggies for a pick-me-up for when you start to fade. The most important part of the wedding is you making it to the alter in one piece.

10 – HAVE FUN!

This is your big day and it belongs to you and your partner, no one else. Don’t let other people’s stress or opinions spoil the enjoyment of your most special day. Before the ceremony, don’t sweat the small stuff and try to keep your cool. And once everything begins, picture it like a rollercoaster in motion: it’s already happening and it’s not gonna stop, so you might as well enjoy the ride.
