The Beauty Movement Weighs in on The Royal Wedding of Meghan & Harry

While we at The Beauty Movement were busy taking care of our wonderful brides last weekend, another bride walked down the aisle that you may have heard of…..Meghan Markle!  So we are a little late to weigh in on the latest Royal Wedding but we tend to get very focused on making our clients look and feel amazing on their big days and Meghan and Harry coincidentally planned their wedding for one of the busiest times for TBM, so we blame them!! LOL

After we finished with our brides and were finally aware of the outside world, many people asked us what we were thinking of all the wedding details so here is our little take on the royal nuptials!

The Decor

The lush greenery at the venue was absolutely stunning and definitely in line with one of our current favourite decor trends towards incorporating more greenery into the scenery!  The voluminous displays lent a rather boho vibe to the affair which was completely fitting for the couple who always seem to come across as simultaneously relaxed and intentional.

The Makeup & Hair

Here is where we really weigh in!  We are so pleased to see the beautiful absence of instagram eyebrows and intense contouring.  Meghan’s beautiful and natural bridal look will be one we hope to replicate over and over this wedding season (and many more to come!).  We totally love that she chose to delicately define her eyes with simple liner and some false lashes, but kept the overall look very natural with a subtle pink lip and sheer foundation that let her immaculate skin breathe and truly showed her beauty.  The defined eye certainly translated well in photos and other media and while we suspect it may have felt ‘a bit much’ for this natural beauty, one always has to remember that on camera 40% of the makeup becomes invisible, something Meghan also probably knew based on her acting experience, ultimately resulting in one of the most fresh and stunning bridal makeup looks we have seen in a long time!

The hair was gorgeous, simply styled and understated, in a low bun which made Queen Mary’s diamond filigree tiara the true centrepiece of her hairstyle.  Her simply beautiful hairstyle was certainly not just thrown together though, a seemingly simple style takes much preparation of the hair and it must be carefully secured so that it can withstand the movement and ultimate removal of the veil.  Her hair did not appear to budge in any of the photos we’ve seen so we must commend her stylist on a job well done!

Meghan wore a beautiful and simple boat neck ¾ sleeve dress designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy.  The noticeable absence of any lace or other detailing was a refreshing change, and really helped to turn the attention to Meghan’s radiant and constantly smiling face!  At once modern and traditional, I could not think of a dress more fitting for a bride who may have been a somewhat surprising choice for Harry but who clearly has the utmost respect for the monarchy and it’s time honoured traditions.

That train though!

The Dress(es)

For the private evening reception at Frogmore House on the Windsor Estate, Meghan changed into a beautiful high neck, sleeveless gown by Stella McCartney which was in beautiful contrast to her first dress.  The high neck made her look long and sleek and the sleeveless design was sure to be much easier to move in on the dance floor!

What did you think of the royal wedding? Were you up at 4am drinking tea?!
